How It Works

Proper matting adds visual breathing room around a print and creates a professional presentation. The mat opening is cut slightly smaller than the print (typically 1/4 inch overlap on each side) to hold the print in place. A weighted bottom mat (slightly wider at the bottom) is a traditional technique that prevents the print from appearing to sink in the frame. Standard mat borders range from 2 to 3.5 inches depending on print size.
