How It Works
File size depends on resolution, bit depth, channels, and compression. RAW files store single-channel Bayer data (1 value per pixel), while TIFF/JPEG store 3 channels (RGB). A 24MP image at 14-bit RAW with lossless compression is about 28MB. The same image as an 8-bit TIFF is about 69MB (3 channels, uncompressed), while JPEG High Quality is about 8MB thanks to lossy DCT compression. Higher bit depth preserves more tonal range for editing.
